To be a Christian...

Last Saturday I attended the baptismal service for the daughter of a friend. During one of the talks we were all reminded of the covenants that we enter into at baptism, one of which is to take upon us the name of Christ. It was explained that to take upon us the name of Christ means that we literally take upon us Christ’s name, we are called Christians. How in all my years have I never thought or heard it explained so simply!

As I have pondered this and what it means to me in my life to be a Christian my thoughts were drawn to the examples I have been reading about recently in the Book of Mormon. To those faithful converts to Christ’s teachings who were steadfast and immovable. To those who were willing to die rather than break their covenants with God. To those who endured hardship cheerfully & with patience. To those who welcomed the persecuted and suffering. To those who once they were converted then set out to teach and bring others to the knowledge of Christ’s Atonement and Plan of Salvation.

In pondering, these words keep coming to my mind, “Be an example of the believers.”  To take upon me the name of Christ means I need to be an example of a believer of Christ!
