The Walmart Experience
I've heard a lot of people recently express their detest of Walmart...how they avoid that store at all costs. They complain about the service, they complain about their fellow shoppers, they complain about the store not having what they need, they complain about the quality of the products and the list goes on. I smile politely as they rant and rage but I can not say that I agree with them.
For the last 12 years I have been a Walmart regular. After paying my mortgage, Walmart in next in line for receiving most of my money each month. And after all these years and large chunk of change I have spent there I have observed and learned a few things....
1. If you are particular about who your fellow shoppers are choose wisely. Similar types choose similar times to shop. I personally shop early in the morning right after I take my kiddos to school...my fellow shoppers include other moms, people on their way to work & retired folks...very few "crazies".
2. You get to choose your cashier! Whenever I choose a new cashier's line they are going through an unannounced job interview in my mind...if I like them I come back, if I didn't like them I avoid them the next time around. My kids laugh at me because I have my favorite ladies (Mary, Lisa Carol, Sharon) and I will search to find them before.
3. Walmart is not synonymous with "fall apart". My favorite & reasonably priced bath mats & towels came from Walmart...Way softer and lasted way longer than ones I bought at Target.
4. If you want stocked shelves you must shop after the shelves have been stocked...not after a full day or retail sales. I am much more likely to find my favorite items in the morning after the night crew is done stocking the shelves than I am at 6pm on the first Friday of the month.
5. I really do save money shopping at Walmart. To the grumpy, ornery, Walmart hating old man at the store today. I matched the prices of everything I bought as you suggested and today I saved $16.48 by shopping at Walmart versus the store you suggested I shop at. That may not sound like much to the old retired corporate world grumpy pants, but when your are tending to a household of 7 it adds up quick. So I will continue to happily & proudly shop at Walmart!
