One Bunch of Awesome

I tend to forget just how busy the end of the school year gets...this year was no exception. I have been to more than my share of award assemblies/ceremonies in the last few weeks...3 kiddos being promoted to the next grade, 2 sports banquets,  and 3 academic awards. These awards gathering represent a lot of hours of hard work, they represent the progress they have made and all they have learned and accomplished. All four older kiddos ended the year with all A's, with the two older continuing their tradition of straight A's all year and Jacob has learned 72 sight words & read 17 books.

I came to realize that these award gathering also represent all that these kiddos have become. There is more to school than learning facts & figures and numbers & letters. School is also about discovering talents, opportunities to serve others & learning to make good choices. There were a few awards received this year that brought tears to my eyes...happy, proud, grateful tears. These awards don't just represent being at the top of the class academically but they represent the character and heart of the student.

Elizabeth goes about her work quietly, but ever so intently. She soaks up knowledge & is fascinated to learn how everything in this world fits together. This year she received the Top Learner Award in Cambridge US History (for having the highest grade) and the Outstanding Achievement award in Cambridge Chemistry (for having the second highest grade). At the awards ceremony her history teacher said, "You have so many wonderful traits from being a hard worker to having great taste in music, but mostly I think the best trait you possess is your sincerity and kindness. I greatly appreciate all that you do int he classroom. You are such a dedicated student and you do it completely under the radar most of the time. I love having you in IGCSE American History. You are amazing!"

Rachel goes about her school day & activities drawing as little attention to herself as possible. But she does do with such grace & quiet dignity that you can't help but notice her. This year in track she received the Coach Burkitt's Award of Excellence (one award given in the honor of a former coach at the school who died of cance, it is the highest honor to receive for a track athlete at her middle school). She also received the Joshua Graffius Sportsmanship Award (given to one student in honor of a remarkable student and athlete who passed away 5 years ago while a student at White Cliffs). She was Student of the Year in Cambridge Social Studies, Physical Education & Graphic Arts. WOW!!!

I know how wonderful & awesome my teenagers are...but was humbled to see & hear that their teachers thought so too! Thank you to all the teachers & coaches who have helped my kiddos discover their talents & encouraged them to work hard!

Wow, I had no idea the kids had accomplished so much. You are a very modest Mom, and you do not go about bragging about your children. You work so hard with them, and now that hard work is coming forth. Tracy, you have such awesome children. I get to claim them as grandchildren. Wow.
