When Will I Be A Girl?
One of the sadder events of 2017 was the removal of “nap
time” from our daily schedule. After Christmas break a year ago, Jacob had
determined that he was now a big boy and like everyone else in the family did
not need an afternoon siesta, little did he know that the biggest of us all
would love to siesta. Anyway, with this change in daily routine my “down time”,
“alone time” and “lunch break” were taken away. I used this sacred time to at
least once a week to sit and contemplate life, record the chaos of our home and
process thoughts and feelings that come along the way. So with the absence of
this sacred time blogging about Tracy’s Thankful Moments have not happened.
Thankful moments have occurred, less often I will admit when I am not actively
looking for them & recording them. So, before 2017 has come to an end I
want to record a few.
One day
early in the year, during the time of potty training, while Jacob was playing
with Sarah I hear this conversation from the other room:
Jacob: When will
I be a girl?
Sarah: (laughs) You won’t
be a girl, you are a boy?
Jacob: Do you
have a penis?
S: (laughs) No!!!! I
am a girl!
Later that
day at dinner asking some female at the table…
Jacob: Do you
have a penis?
Mom: No, she is a girl. Only boys have a penis.
Jacob: Heavenly
Father will give you a penis when you grow up and then you will be a boy?
Mom: Uh...That is
not how it works.
Then on to
having a family discussion at the dinner table able the eternal nature of our
genders & identity. We definitely have an observant little thinker on our hands!
