Catching Critters
One of the blessings of living in the desert is that we have lots of critters running around in the backyard; lizards, caterpillars, rolley pollies, grass hoppers and a few "leave alone" critters too. With all these critters running around my kiddos are becoming quite adept at chasing, sneaking up on & catching these critters.
I am not particularly good at catching these critters...mostly I am too squeamish to insects & little lizard feet moving in my hands and Paul has no interest in these critters.
But thankfully my boys have a wonderful grandma who taught them how to catch lizards when she was visiting and also a big sister, Elizabeth, who is happy to go out, search amongst the weeds & dirt for the camouflaged little guys then sneak up on them and swoop down and catch them real quick before they run or jump away.
She has done such a good job of showing Jacob how to catch the grasshoppers that I now call Jacob the grasshopper whisperer. He is seven starting to be able to catch them with out breaking the poor grasshoppers jumping legs.
