One Proud Mama
As a stay at home mom there are certain things that I feel are just part of the package. One of those is driving my kiddos to & from school each day. Another is sitting through daytime awards assemblies at the end of each quarter or semester. Unfortunately the end of the year awards assemblies were all on the same day. Which is only a problem when the assemblies entail traveling between two schools & it is an early release day. The schedule was as follows:
9:00am - 8th grade (Elizabeth)
9:30am - 3rd-5th grade (John)
11:00am - 6th grade (Rachel)
11:20am - Elementary School Early Release (pick up John & Sarah from school).
I figured I could leave Elizabeth's early, drive the ten minutes to the Elementary school & show up to John's late. Rachel was fine if I missed hers altogether due to picking up the younger kiddos from school.
The day of awards assemblies started as planned. I saw Elizabeth receive her Principal's list award for the 2nd semester & whole year, so I left feeling good I was there to support her. After sitting through John's assembly I decided with a quick stop at the park for Jacob to play we could make it to Rachel's after all (the 8th grade assembly went so quick I figured there was time). Unfortunately the 6th grade assembly started late so I missed her receiving her Principal's list awards for 2nd semester & the whole year. It was the thought that counts right?
As I was driving to get the little kids from school I received this picture in a text from the mom of one of Rachel's friends, with the caption "Rachel just received student of the year in PE & Social Studies!"
I suddenly felt very sad that I had to leave early & missed Rachel receiving that totally awesome award. They chose only one girl & one boy from the whole 6th grade for the PE award & only one boy & one girl from the 6th grade Cambridge program for the Social Studies award. I had no idea she would be chosen. Way to go Rachel! I am most sad that I missed the look on her face when her name was called.
After having picked everyone up from school fro the day, I was congratulating Rachel on her awards, then thought to ask, "Elizabeth, did you get any awards that I missed?" "I got 8th grade Cambridge Student of the Year for Social Studies," was the reply from the back seat. What?! I had missed that one too!
So proud of my kiddos this year and all of their hard work! They are pretty awesome!
