See Elizabeth Run . . . See Rachel Run

One of the things I have come to enjoy most about being a parent is watching my kiddos do something that brings them joy; watching them put their heart into something while using their talents & learning to be a better person in the process.

For Elizabeth & Rachel one of those things is running!

Track meets this spring were double the fun with two girls running!

Elizabeth prefers the long distance races: 1600, 1200 & 800; with the 1200 being her favorite.

But her coach thought she would make a good sprinter  (after all she does the 2nd leg of the 4x100 relay) and for all but the first meet put her in the 100m race. The first time Elizabeth competed in this race she was apprehensive but willing.

I don't know that I have ever seen that girl put so much effort into something, literally giving it all she had . . . but unfortunately she still came in dead last for her heat. This was a huge blow to her ego. But she graciously competed in the 100m again at the next track meet at her coaches wishes. Yes, she improved but we all have learned that she is a distance runner at heart.

This was Rachel's first year to be on the track team & she loved it!!

She went into the season thinking that she would like to do sprinting, long jump & hurdles. But after standing next to the hurdles, she decided that wasn't for her . . . they were too high. She only had a few chances to try the long jump at practice and realized it was harder than it looked . . . she hopes she can get a chance to try it more next year. She just barely made it into the "B" class for competing based on a height/weight ratio. "B" class has the most athletes so as a 6th grader she kinda got the left overs. That meant my girl who is a sprinter at heart was running the distance races. . . 1600, 1200, & 800.

She hated the 1600, liked the 1200 & loved the 800! She did very well in the 800, taking 4th at the White Cliffs Meet. With each meet she made improvements on the times for all of her races.

These girls worked their little hearts out this year! I am so glad these girls of mine, who are the best of friends, had the opportunity to share this track season together. But more importantly, I am glad that they can share their love of running with each other for many more years to come.
