"Way To Go Liz! You Can Do This!"
After much debate and indecisiveness throughout the summer Elizabeth joined the Cross Country team this fall. She was SO glad she did! She LOVES to run!
She had two goals as the season got underway . . . to come in ahead of her friend Kate and to earn a medal. She accomplished both!
During this season I discovered two things that I love about cross-country; 1) Elizabeth is a totally different child when she came home from practice and 2) I love the meets. Elizabeth is a somewhat typical middle schooler who comes home from school tired, hungry & a bit grumpy . . .NOT after she went to practice and ran for an hour. She came home happy, funny & dedicated to get her homework done. It is as if all the negative energy she took to school & continued to pick up throughout the day was pounded into the pavement & desert as she ran. I can't wait for track season to start.
Most sports fans would consider a cross country meet super boring . . .not me . . .but then again I am not a sports fan. Why are they wonderful you ask? They are short, generally from start to finish, just under an hour. It's OK if you spend the whole time chatting to other parents and only see the start . . .
Actually this is encouraged as typically that is the only part of the race that logistically you are able to see anyway. Whatelse do you have to do once you have cheered them on at the start while you wait for them to finish?. . .Chat with the other parents of course! This is my kind of sport.
I am very proud of Elizabeth for discovering something that she loves and putting her whole heart into it! Way to go Liz!
