Pinewood Derby

My only experience with a pinewood derby comes from the movie "Down and Derby". I always thought that movie was a satire of the efforts that Dads go through to help their sons make their Derby cars in hopes to winning the race. Oh, was I wrong! It is quite the reality show.

John recently got to participate in his first Cub Scout Pinewood Derby . . . all I can say is, "Let the craziness begin!" As I watched Paul purchase a new band-saw, weights & graphite, spend hours watching YouTube videos on how to build a pinewood derby car, saw him cut out several cars to achieve the perfect shape, I just shook my head. Can this be fore real? I kept telling him I better not find a wooden track built in my bedroom for test runs (watch the movie, you'll understand).  But as I overheard his conversations with other Dad's the weeks before the event I realized they are all a little nutso!

I may not understand the finer nuances of the Pinewood Derby or what goes into creating the winning car but I do understand that my little boy had a great time & was very proud to race the car his Dad built for him!
