And the Winner is . . .

Several weeks ago Rachel came home from school telling me about this poster contest that she wanted to win because the 1st place winner would receive $25. I tried to be encouraging and supportive all the while not wanting her to get her hopes up if she did not win. The poster contest was in honor of Arbor Day. Each of the 5th grade students were to draw a poster depicting the theme: Trees are Terrific in Cities and Towns.

A couple of weeks went by and Rachel came home excited to tell me that she had won 1st place. Good Job Rachel!

When she brought home a paper with the date & time of the awards ceremony & tree planting I noticed her invitation read, "Congratulations on being the 1st place winner for Hualapai Elementary school and Grand Prize Winner!" I asked her about the grand prize winner part & she said, "oh I think they all say that."  Hmmm! I'm wasn't so sure; we went to this same award ceremony & tree planting 2 years ago when Elizabeth won 1st place for her 5th grade Arbor Day poster & I remembered the grand prize was something different.

Well, on Saturday we headed to the "green hole", the park where they were to plant trees this year, and we learned what Grand Prize winner meant. It meant she not only received $25 for 1st place but an additional $50 for a total of $75, this is what Rachel was excited about; but more important to momma was that she won the poster contest for all of the 5th grade students in the Kingman area!!!

So proud of my little artist!
