Happy New Year!
Many where we live would like to tell you that Mother Nature played a cruel trick on us for New Years or that Hell froze over for New Years, but I believe we were given a beautiful gift!
We woke up New Year's Eve Day to a beautiful blanket of snow!!! The kids were asking to go outside and play even before they had eaten breakfast. When there is snow around there are a few things my kiddos are sure to do:
. . . and eat it! I don't understand the desire to eat the snow, but they tell me it is super yummy!
We weren't out there too long before it felt like someone was shaking a snowglobe; it began to snow and the wind began to blow. So, we headed inside to get warm.
But, on New Year's Day we woke up to sunshine and LOTS more snow!
I would say there was about 6 inches of snow covering the ground, and beautiful icicles hanging from the roof. (The kids like to eat icicles about as much as snow)
With all this snow it was time to break out the sled.
As John came near the patio I could tell he wanted to pull Jacob down the stairs, I warned him not to, but he did it anyway. To my surprise Jacob stayed in the sled & loved every minute of the bumpety, bump . . . John was on to something. We added a little more snow to smooth out the bumps . . . Wala! We had our very own sledding hill!
It proved to be hours of snowy entertainment!
The best part was if the kids got too cold they could go in the house to warm up. There was no wining about how they wanted to go home, while the others still wanted to play. Jacob was able to have his nap while we all played & I didn't have to drive on the snow packed roads. I think everyone needs a sledding hill in their backyard!
There is always bound to be at least one mishap when sledding or playing in the snow . . .
. . .Everyone laughed through the crash, except Jacob. But, no injuries to report.
Jacob has recently learned to master landing feet first when he goes down the slide. He had no idea that when you are covered in snow, you go much faster and it is that much harder to land feet first at the bottom . . .
. . . He didn't know what to think after he face-planted in the snow-covered sand. Thank goodness he is a resilient little guy and after getting warm, some lunch & a nap was ready to try the cold, white, fluffy stuff again.
Despite all the nay-sayers we live near, we enjoyed every minute of the snow and would welcome it back again (soon).
It was the perfect way to begin the New Year!
