It's About Time

The title of this post is more appropriate as time goes by . . . because it's about time I finally finished this post.

We have these big mountains we get to look at daily and after three plus years have never been up to explore their beauty . . . until now!

Paul took a day off when the kids had fall break and we headed to the Hualapai's to hike and explore.

It was a longer hike than most of the kiddos wanted.  And with no destination of water we had to be creative on how we encouraged the kids to keep going.

For Rachel a promise of getting to climb on rocks did the trick.

To keep Elizabeth & Sarah moving I had a well stocked fanny pack (yes I still hike with a fanny pack; so much cooler and easier than a backpack) of dum-dum suckers.

John moved his feet as long as his hands were busy and full of beautiful collections; rocks, sticks, acorns, and even a bouquet of flowers.

Jacob would have happily walked, but we would probably still be there with the rate his little feet & explorative mind go. He rode in the backpack most of the way.

Aside from keeping everyone moving it was fun and beautiful.  We were passed often and passed only a few.  We didn't see much in the way of wildlife, unless you count the many dogs traveling with hikers, but we did see beautiful views and experienced an amazing thunderstorm.

I don't recall there being rain or a storm in the forecast but one rolled in nonetheless.  We waited out the biggest of the raindrops at the Boy Scout Camp and were sprinkled on much of the way down the mountain.  Note to self: buy new shoes so hiking on wet rocks is not a slip and slide experience. Yes I slipped twice on wet rocks, my poor bottom.

As always the best part of dragging my poor family along on one of my crazy hiking adventures was the time spent together seeing new things and making memories.
