Rain Gutter Regatta

Just before John turned 8 a friend of mine asked, "Is John excited to start Cub Scouts?"  I was so focused on helping him prepare to be baptized that I had totally forgotten that 8 is when the boys join start Cub Scouts with our church sponsored Pack.

Paul started taking him each Tuesday night.  Before long he was clearly looking forward to going each week to be with the other boys.  One Tuesday night about a month later, I looked in the living room to see John diligently working hard to get his Cub Scout shirt buttoned all by himself.  No one had mentioned he needed to get ready to go and change his shirt, he had done it all on his own. This is when I knew he loved Cub Scouts!

At breakfast one day this summer we were discussing what we were doing on that particular Tuesday.  John asked, "Do I have Scouts tonight?" with a hint of excitement.  He was very disappointed when I had to tell him that there wouldn't be Scouts again until school started. (They take the summer off in our area)

School has started, and last night Cub Scouts resumed with a very fun pack meeting; the Rain Gutter Regatta!

The boys each got to make a boat; section of a pool noodle, complete with a custom designed mast & any decorations they would like. Then they had to blow their boat down the water filled rain gutter.  The first boat to the other end wins!

John never won, but he sure enjoyed trying; loving every minute of being there with the other boys & so proud of his boat!

They had plenty of supplies for siblings to make & race a boat too!

The boys were great sports letting all the little sisters race too!
