Eggs, Baskets & More . . .
Sometimes with the hustle and bustle of life I find myself wishing that we could skip over the next holiday on the calendar. Easter was one of those this year. I was more than happy to focus on and remember the gift of the Savior's Atonement but I really wasn't in the mood for eggs, bunnies & baskets. But I have 5 cute little faces that look forward to each holiday and the "traditions" that go along with it. So alas, I pulled on my big girl panties and helped create smiles on those 5 cute little faces.
Coloring eggs this year was sort of a dud. I saw these white plastic dye-able eggs at the store and thought we would try them. They cost the same as real eggs, I wouldn't have to boil them & wouldn't have to feel bad about throwing food away once Easter was over (we don't like to eat hard boiled eggs around here). I don't recommend these eggs, at least not following the package directions for dying them. There was not enough liquid in the cups to cover the eggs, and it took too long for the eggs to absorb the color. After a while I just got the water colors out and the kids painted some super cool eggs instead.
Easter baskets are delivered at the Strong house on Saturday morning. We started this many years ago in a way to avoid any extra chaos on Sunday mornings before church and to leave Sunday as the day to remember the Savior's Resurrection.
Jacob had no clue what all the excitement was about. But he was happy to go along with the other in all the festivities. It was special to see the kids excited to show him/teach him the "traditions" of the holiday.
The much anticipated part of the Easter basket is the gold foil wrapped chocolate bunny! They look so cute sitting in the baskets and taste even better!
My favorite part of Easter is the egg hunt. Since we now have grass in the backyard we opted for an egg hunt outside. I don't know how many eggs we hid but there was plenty to go around and then some.
The kids were a little disappointed to learn that not all of the eggs were filled with candy. I had divided up a Lego set amongst the eggs that we put together later in the day as a family. Note to self: it sounded like a fun family bonding type activity, not so much. Next year just do candy. No chocolate, the plastic eggs act like little ovens out there in the sun.
Despite the disappointment in trying things a little differently, we had a great day, and I think everyone came out happy!
