A Day at the Beach
The setting for the family reunion (see previous post) could not have been more beautiful or ideal for a family of 5 active kiddos . . . Laguna Beach, California!
I knew that even if my kiddos (and husband) did not enjoy visiting with unknown relatives at least they would have a good time playing at the beach. And that they did!
Our day started by taking some "one year old pictures" of Jacob on the beach.
He is a cutie!!!
(if I do say so myself)
(if I do say so myself)
Jacob loved sitting in the sand; attempting to pick it up and letting it run through his hands. At times it was tricky to get him to look at the camera because he was more interested in the crashing waves behind us. But he cooperated nicely and made it very hard to choose a picture for the wall at home.
Once the business of the morning was through, the kids enjoyed a wonderful day with their cousins building sand castles . . .
. . . and playing in the waves!
And sometimes the waves hit the sand castle too!
I never knew just how much my kiddos (and husband) loved the beach.
We have been to Southern California a lot over the years. With each trip we have tried to work in time to visit the beach, but I believe this is the first time that we were able to spend the entire day at the beach. (The kids & Paul did take about an hour break to walk up the hill to Heiser Park for lunch and to mingle with relatives).
Jacob, too loved having the waves splash on his legs and letting the tide bury his feet in the sand.
It was a perfect beach day, warm but not too hot, clear & not crowded! When we arrived in the morning we had the beach to ourselves except for the occasional couple taking a morning stroll along the beach. As the day went on a few more people set up camp on the beach, but none were brave enough to enter the water, unlike my kiddos. :)
We have decided that one of these days we are going to take a vacation to simply go to the beach, forget about trying to fit the beach into our vacation, we are going to make going to the beach our vacation!
