Elizabeth & Rachel are to thank for this next tradition; this is actually one that I enjoy and look forward to . . . maybe because it is relatively new? Making
gingerbread graham cracker houses.
It started while we lived in Kentucky after having been invited over to a friends house to make gingerbread houses, a kit given to us the next year and making them at Girl Scouts the following year. My girls loved it so much that they decided that we needed to do this each year. Some years we have made one large one that the whole family works together to decorate but the favorite is when each child gets to decorate their very own miniature house. To simplify the process we use graham crackers because no one ever eats the house, they just pick the candy off.
I was very surprised and impressed this year at how well ALL of the kiddos did at independently decorating their houses. Paul and I mostly sat back and watched while nibbling on candy.
