Christmas Traditions: Part 6

FYI: As you can see  from the title this is #6 and the last in a series of posts of I have  done about our families Christmas traditions.  I don't know that it will really matter what order you read these in, but if you are a little on the neat, organized, compulsive side like me you may want to start with Part 1.  The introduction on that post will help to bring everything full circle.  Happy reading!

As Christmas traditions go, we each tend to have our favorites.  You know the part of Christmas that you look forward to all year.  It is the part that just seems to make the holiday complete.  And for each of us, it is something different.

For John, it is getting to create a pile of wrapping paper from all of the gift wrap, tissue paper, bows, and even the toy packaging.

A word of caution, don't try to sneak any paper from his pile, he knows every little piece by name.  If you try, the joy and sweet magic of Christmas morning will be replaced by antics of the Grinch and Ebenezer Scrooge combined (at the start of their stories of course). Not a pretty sight!

I believe Elizabeth & Rachel's favorite Christmas tradition is being able to stay in their pajamas ALL day!

It is the only day of the year, unless they are sick of course, that I allow this.  It is one of those things that makes Christmas special. :)  Even when they went out to ride their new bikes later in the afternoon they had their pj's  on.  I don't even think they realized they were still in their pj's riding around the neighborhood.  In a few more years that might just be embarrassing to them . . .

My favorite tradition of Christmas are the lights!

(No that is not my house in the picture above, I wish, but no.  It is however a real house here in Kingman.)

I love driving slowly through the neighborhoods admiring the lights on the houses at night.  It makes everything seem like magic.   I drag my family out as often as I can throughout the month of December. I have converted at least one other, John, to loving Christmas lights; this year every time we were in the car at night he would ask to go look for Christmas lights and if he didn't think we had seen enough by the time we arrived home he let us hear about it. :)  I think others got a little bored with it.  Of all the places we have lived since we've been married, the homes in Kingman have the best lights.  I do miss seeing Christmas light covered by snow, that's my absolute favorite; so beautiful!

Well, for a lady who doesn't care much for "tradition" and who seems to be always looking for ways to get out of traditions I sure do have a number of them that I keep alive for my family.  And I suppose as long as my family looks forward to them, enjoys them and remembers them we will keep doing them.  After all traditions have a way of making something special . . .and Christmas after all should be and is special!
