Happy Halloween
Halloween came way to fast and was over just as fast for us this year. All in all Halloween was very different for our family. I had decided that I wanted to go a bit more frugal this year so I told the kids they would have to "share" a pumpkin to carve with a sibling and that they had to come up with a costume from our dress-up boxes and previous years costumes. Thankfully they happily agreed. Days before Halloween I was grateful I had made this decision because we have had a stomach bug roaming through our family this week and I wasn't sure who, if any, would be well enough to get dressed up and go trick-or-treating.
The traditional pumpkin carving brought more new things this year:
Rachel wanted to try pulling out the guts, and she liked it!
John commented that the guts were making him sick. This is usually his favorite part, but he wasn't feeling well that day.
As Jacob experienced the pumpkin carving for the first time, he stood balanced on the table with no help for over a minute!
And Elizabeth decided to tackle the carving all by herself!
Up until Halloween morning we weren't sure who was going to get dressed up that evening. Thankfully, the thought of missing out on candy helped everyone to have a speedy recovery. :)
I think they all looked adorable!
Especially my baby lion!
Jacob wasn't sure about the whole costume thing, especially when I tried to draw a nose and whiskers on his face. But he came around when the night was over and he got to have a piece of candy all of his own for the first time.
The highlight of my night was having Paul voluntarily dress up. It was a surprise to us all, and a delight to the kids, (I usually throw something together, but not Paul). He gets my vote for best costume. (unfortunately the picture below doesn't capture the love of my life at his best, but it will do).
Now it is time to enjoy the candy! Thankfully our kids are picky so there is plenty for Mom & Dad to enjoy. Happy Halloween!
