I Love School!

Summer is officially over at my house, (well at least summer vacation, it is still plenty hot out).  The kiddos started back to school last week, today was day 3!

Elizabeth is in 6th grade . . .her first year in Middle School!  I don't think she is loving it just yet but she is doing well with the adjustments to a new school, new kids, new routine, new car pool, etc.  She is even talking about going out for Cross Country.

Rachel is in 4th grade, and so far is enjoying it thanks to a wonderful teacher who does not overload them with homework.

John is in 1st grade, we decided to have him repeat 1st grade to build a more solid foundation of the basic academic skills.  He has a new teacher but the same one-on-one aid.  After the first day I asked him how his day was and his response was, "This was the best day ever!"  I can only hope he retains that excitement the remainder of the year.

Sarah is in Kindergarten . . .all day Kindergarten!  She loves it!  She has handled the transition from preschool to Elementary school very well.  I think it helps that she knows half of the kids in her class; her class looks more like primary that school. :)  I think she is missing her time with Mommy, even though I am very boring, and her time with Jacob.  Hopefully she will adjust as the year goes on.

And from 8:45am - 2:45pm my house is significantly quieter and calmer.  Two things I love about my kiddos being back in school is that I am able to get laundry done in a reasonable amount of time and I can squeeze in some exercise for this tired, flabby body of mine.  Jacob really missed the kiddos though; he gets sad every time I walk out of the room, he is so used to having people around all the time.

But the very best part of school . . . I love my kids so much more when I pick them up at the end of the day.  A little quiet time for Mom and a little time apart helps me realize just how much I love them.  Don't tell them, but I think they love me more too after a little break away.  Instead of our house feeling like the battleground, it feels more like the safe haven I want it to be.  I love school!!!

Great pictures! I know that feeling. I was just saying that I love my kids more when they are in school too!
