New Tricks
Our little Jacob is getting to be not so little anymore. He is 6 months old now and over the last couple of months he has learned some fun new tricks.
He discovered his toes! He thinks they are fun to hold, fun to look at and most of all fun to chew on.
On our summer vacation (more on that in another post) he went swimming for the first time. Don't let the look on his face fool you, he quite enjoyed it.
When we got home from our trip we discovered that he had reached a new developmental milestone . . . he could sit without help! I think spending three long days in a stroller was just the support and encouragement he needed to tone those tummy muscles to be able to accomplish this new trick.
He has begun to expand his diet beyond breast milk . . . he has started eating rice cereal, oatmeal and orange veggies (we'll try some green veggies tonight and see how that goes). But his favorite part of the meal in the high chair is attempting to drink water out of a sippy cup.
When you can sit it opens up a whole new world of exploration, especially nature explorations. I've yet to let him sit in the dirt (don't want a handful going to the mouth) but grass is becoming a regular thing. He enjoys that prickly stuff rubbing against his chubby little bare legs and feet.
A companion of summer is the nap schedule going out the window due to comings and goings, so when you are a baby you have to get a nap in whenever and where ever you can. Sometimes in cute places like the high chair, other times in not so cute places . . .
. . . like Daddy's armpit.
To add to the list of new tricks are also scooting on his bottom while sitting (this is my favorite because he looks so cute while he rocks back and forth to get what he wants ; all the while having a big smile on his face), pushing himself backward while lying on his tummy (this makes him mad because he gets even farther from the toy he is trying to reach), and being able to take his binki in and out using it as a teething toy.
As fun as it is to watch Jacob learn new tricks it is fun to watch his sisters get so excited for him. I expect Jacob's trick list is going to grow rapidly now that he has some basics in his repertoire. We will see if his sisters still think these tricks are cute and exciting when he can crawl and eat all of their Legos.
