Bring On The Love

Paul's Grandma used to tell me, "babies bring so much love."  I didn't understand what she meant.  I wasn't feeling the love.  Sure I loved my babies I didn't get it . . . until baby #5.  It dawned on me the other day when I saw Elizabeth interact with Jacob.  She had been feeling grumpy and ornery about something.  I was holding Jacob and went into her room.  I handed Jacob to her and instantly the grumpies left and she was all smiles as she talked with him and played with him.  I get it now!  Who could be grumpy or angry towards this sweet tiny baby?

Elizabeth isn't the only one feeling the love . . . all of the kids are enjoying and loving their little baby brother.

They love him most when he is not in my arms (we are experiencing some jealously these days), but when he can get down and play with them, or when they can include him in their play.

Sometimes Jacob isn't so keen on their ideas of playtime, and he can't do much to object to their choice of activities, other than make faces or cry.

These days John loves to hold Jacob and loves to have Jacob near by. I think he is finally seeing just how cool his little brother is.

I hope these boys can be great friends.

There really is something magic about holding a little baby who is happy and content, it is like being wrapped up in a blanket of love.

The other day while eating lunch Sarah says so me, "Do you just love Jacob?" I was a bit taken back by this question and realized I needed to respond carefully. "Why do you say that?" was my response. "Because you talk to Jacob like you only love him," was her reply. Ouchy on a mommas heart. I realized then that I had a jealous little girl on my hands, but I also realized something wonderful. . . Sarah could tell by the way I interacted that I loved Jacob. From somehwere deep within the love for my small baby was oozing out without me even knowing it.

Babies really do bring a lot of love with them. Sorry, Grandma Westergard that it took me so long to figure this out. I'm just glad I finally did. :)

What a special blog. You were the "love bug" in our home. No matter how much the rest of us could be at each other, no one was ever angry at you. You were the one that brought love to our family. Jacob has that honor in yours. Luv the picture of John and Jacob.
