Happy Bithday Pink Princess

Starting almost a year ago Sarah started talking about what she wanted to do at her birthday party.  She would get so excited as she told me she wanted pink castle cupcakes like Pinkalicious had in her Pinkalicious Slumber Party book. And she would thoughtfully let me know who she wanted to invite to her birthday party.  Well, when we learned we were expecting a baby and that he was due to be born just a week before her birthday I wasn't sure I wanted to host a birthday party full of little girls.  I kept hoping Sarah would forget or change her mind, but as January got closer the more excited she became and the more I realized I couldn't break this little girl's heart by letting her baby brother over shadow a party to celebrate her 5th birthday.  So in one of my "good mommy" moments I began to think outside the box and figure out how we could still let the Pink Princess have her "Fancy Pinkalicious" party; we would hold it before the baby comes.

So being very great with child, and with the help of Elizabeth, Rachel & Grandma Sue we threw one very fun birthday party for Sarah two and a half weeks early.

Sarah, and her five little friends, made pink bracelets, got dressed all "fancy" with their pink feather boas, pink tu-tus & pink necklaces, went on a scavenger hunt to find pink sparkly jewels, played Pinkalicious Bingo, decorated pink tiaras and last but not least had pink castle cupcakes.

Sarah was one very happy little girl!  Her party was a success and her baby brother cooperated nicely to wait until after her party to enter the world.  So as not to let the new baby totally overshadow things we celebrated Sarah's "real" birthday with pink donuts.

Five has proven to be the magic number at our house.  My kiddos start down an unpleasant path starting at age 2 with the terrible twos and it continues with the horrible threes and escalates with the monstrous fours.  Something magic happens once they turn five, we see glimpses of sweet, angelic wonderful children emerging.  This pattern has proven true once again.  There have been moments over the last month where I wonder what someone has done with my independently strong willed little girl.  Instead in her place is a sweet, kind, and almost angelic little blued eyed girl with a contagious smile who kindly obeys her parents, sweetly plays with her brother and who has traded mischievousness in for creatively and helpfulness.

We love you Sarah and are so happy you are 5!
