Welcome Home Jacob
The hospital here does not keep you long after having a baby. Within 24 hours we were cleared to go home. Given that Jacob was born in the evening they gave us the choice to stay one more night, but I opted to come home, sleep in my own bed and use my own shower. By the time we arrived home it was almost 9pm. We had told Grandma to go ahead and put John & Sarah to bed, but that it was OK for Elizabeth & Rachel to wait up for us. The kids had not met their new baby brother yet because the hospital was closed to visitors under the age of 16 due to the number of flu cases in the area. So the girls were very excited to stay up until we got home.
They enjoyed having a turn to hold him and cuddle with him. Elizabeth was really cute when it was her turn, she says, "How do I hold him?" I guess it has been a while since we have had a newborn in the house.
John was the first kiddo up the next morning and when he came into our room he was excited to meet his new brother. "Where is the baby?" is the first thing he asked. He didn't really want to hold Jacob but instead just wanted to look at him and know he was there.
After we tried to get John to hold him, he looked at me and said, "Are you going to have two babies?" I was a bit confused but simply answered, "No, just one." Then he looks at my tunny and said, "Then what's in your tummy?" I guess he thought once the baby came out I should look like I did before I was pregnant.
Sarah came in a little later while Paul was changing Jacob's diaper. She stood near by watching with a big smile on her face to finally meet her baby brother. She thought he was so cute and tiny.
I believe that Jacob is loved by each of his siblings. Elizabeth & Rachel want to hold him at some point each day. They are good to let me know that they haven't got to hold him all day and they need a turn. John comes home from school looking for Jacob and saying, "Hi baby!" Sarah loves it when I lay Jacob on a blanket next to where she is playing with her toys so that he can play too.
Welcome Home Little Brother!
