It's Carving Time

One of my favorite parts of Halloween is the pumpkins!  Buying pumpkins and decorating with them has a way of making it "feel" like fall and lets me know its Halloween and that Thanksgiving is just around the corner.  This year was no exception.

The kids each got to pick out their own pumpkin.  And since I couldn't convince any of them to pick the lumpy bumpy kind I had to get one too.  Why did I want a lumpy bumpy one?  Simply because I think they are cool, but really because I had these cool witch Mr. Potato Pumpkin Head parts I wanted to use on one.  Carving time finally arrived Monday evening, Family Night, before Halloween.  They kids were excited about it all day.  They each were excited for different reason I think, some because they wanted to experience turning their plain pumpkins into Jack-O-Lanterns and others because they wanted to play in the guts.  Can you guess who liked which part best?

Rachel's like her Mom, not so fond of the guts!  But I was so proud of her that she pulled some out anyway.

Guts aren't Sarah's favorite part either.

But John on the other hand . . . can't get enough of the guts.  I think he was disappointed that his little pumpkin had so few.  But he was insistent when we went to buy pumpkins that he wanted a "cute little pumpkin".

No worries he was able to help Rachel and Sarah and had plenty of guts to entertain him for as along as we would let him.

Elizabeth, too loves the guts!  Why did the gut lovers want little pumpkins?  I think next year I need to do some educating before we buy them; the bigger the pumpkin the more guts to play in.

They each enjoyed seeing the happy face appear on their Jack-O-Lanterns.  Notice who still has his hands in the guts!
