It's a . . . .

This post is long overdue . . .Let's hope that my baby will not be overdue like this post is. :)

Several weeks ago we had the amazing opportunity to see our new little baby via ultrasound.  Actually it is the third one that I've had but this was the big one.  The one where they take all of the measurements and you get the tour of head, spine, legs, feet, hands, heart, stomach, other internal organs and the much anticipated gender defining parts.

We opted to take the girls along with us, (we left John with a friend) to be totally honest if I had to do it again I would have left the girls with friends also, they were bored.  They did not fully appreciate what they were seeing on the computer screen.  All they cared about was finding out if they were getting a brother or a sister.  The votes were pretty split amongst the family members.  Paul & Rachel were hoping for a boy. Elizabeth & Sarah were hoping for a girl.  John kept saying he wanted a sister, but then again that is all he knows.  Personally I just wanted to know that the baby was healthy and growing.

I got my wish.  Everything measured exactly as it should, and all of the body parts were accounted for and appearing to do their function (as much as you can tell at 19 weeks).  As for the rest of the family . . . two were disappointed and two were very happy.

The only part I was disappointed with is that the ultrasound tech did not print more pictures.  There was the cutest view of the little hand, and I love the whole body profile view, but alas she just printed two; this cute skeleton face (the baby is getting ready for Halloween)

and one showing the gender.

It's a good thing she labeled this picture, because it is not very obvious to the untrained eye.  There were some other shots we saw that were much more obvious but the baby was being modest for the camera.

In case you can't tell and can't make out the label, We are having a boy! Of course Paul is very excited and so is Rachel.  Elizabeth is fine with it as long as she doesn't have to share a room when the baby comes, and Sarah is slowly coming around.  John is starting to understand, but I don't think has any idea how his world will change come January.  He comes up to me multiple times throughout the day and asks, with a silly little grin on his face, what is in my tummy.  Sometimes he will touch my tummy others he slyly peaks under my shirt.  After the zillionth time I have started to give silly responses back and John response is always, "No, a baby."  I will follow this up with, "What kind of baby?"  He finally now replies, "A boy baby."

Now that we know the gender, we need to choose a name!  This is easier said than done when you have used your favorite boy name already and there are older siblings to give their input.  Thank goodness we have several months to figure this part out.

yeah for another boy! Although I just hope for a healthy baby... I was hoping we could have a "Clara" :)
Yay a boy! Of course they are all I know so I think anyone having a boy should be excited. I think you should name him Mark or Luke. You can't stop the bible name tradition, even though it wasn't planned.
