A Wise Woman Once Said . . .
I have often heard my mother say, "Kids are washable". I use to cringe at this because it just causes more work for the Mom. But over the years I have come to see that there is a lot of wisdom is this statement, and I have relaxed a bit a lot.
So you ask what do you do on a hot summer day in Kingman, AZ? Go play in the mud of course!
At least that's what my kiddos decided to do yesterday. By the time I went to get the camera 3 out of 4 kiddos had gone in the house to change into dry, clean clothes. So just Sarah remained.
She was having so much fun, and that's when those great words of wisdom sang in my mind, "Kids are washable".
Did I really want to interrupt this fun in the name of "cleanliness". Goodness No! There is something magical about a child who is able to explore, experiment, discover, get dirty, laugh and have a good time without adults imposing their idea ofboring fun, squeamishness and order by saying, "Don't do that, you'll get dirty."
I am so glad that my Mom let me make mud pies, I think I may have eaten a few, YUCK!, and never cared if I got dirty while I played. And I'm thankful that I have learned a bit in my 10 1/2 years of motherhood so that I am willing to let my kiddos get dirty and have fun. After all kids are washable!

A side note: Rachel just saw this and said, "Sarah makes everything fun!" :) The perspective of a child is so telling. Lightbulb moment: Perhaps that is why Sarah came to our family, to teach us how to relax and have fun?
Can you tell what Sarah is doing now? Are you totally cringing and squirming in your seat at the thought of laying in watery mud and having it splashing around you? Wait until you see the video clip!
