Are They Twins?
From around the time Elizabeth was 5 and Rachel was 3 people began to ask me if the girls were twins; they were so close in size. I was happy to tell them, "No, they are two years apart." Around this same time the girls began to wear the same size shirts and it wasn't too long before they began to wear the same size shoe. They have been so close in height for the last couple of years that it has been hard to know who was taller. I've always warned Elizabeth that there would come a day that Rachel would be taller, but each time we would make a mark on the wall Elizabeth always managed to stay about a quarter of an inch taller than Rachel.
In our old house we had a wall in the laundry room that we used to mark the kids heights on (we started this at Grandpa Steve's request when he and Grandma Sue left on their mission). We hadn't found a height marking wall in our new house, but the other day I was wanting to know who was really taller. I had the girls stand "bum to bum" but I couldn't tell, so I decided it was time to find a secluded corner to graffiti with lines and dates.
To be sure their heads were not tilty I even used one of Paul's levels to help me make my lines. To my surprise, the prophesied day had come. . .

Rachel is taller! About a half inch taller in fact! I thought Elizabeth would be sad, but to my surprise she sort of was excited to be the shorty one.
