She's Not So Little Anymore . . .
My littlest little lady is not so little anymore! Last Sunday Sarah had a birthday; she is four years old now.
As I have sat back and watched her lately I am quickly reminded that she is nor so little, not a baby or even a toddler anymore but well on her way to becoming a "big girl". She dresses herself, tries to brush her own teeth, redresses herself, gets on her shoes and socks, helps herself to snacks all day long out of the cupboard, gets herself a cup out of the dishwasher and fills it with water when she wants a drink, tells me that she wants to read the story herself at nap time, changes the DVDs and starts her own movies, takes care of pottying all by herself and turns off her own lamp when she is tired and wants to go to sleep at night.
There is something magical that happened with this birthday. As if over night my mischievous, obstinate little lady has become sweet and significantly more pleasant to spend my days with. We are enjoying this new version of Sarah and are hoping that this is a personality that is here to stay.
Sarah was very excited for her "dirt-day". She had been anticipating it for weeks, and woke up last Sunday morning knowing clearly it was her birthday. She patiently waited with much enthusiasm until after church when we would have her "party". She was full of smiles most of the day. I think even more than opening presents she was looking forward to her pink birthday cake; complete with pink candles and pink frosting. (Can you tell she still loves pink?)
There was one mishap/funny event of the day; as she leaned over to blow out her candles, a clump of hair fell forward and was singed by the candles. I don't think she really noticed, except for her sisters screams and the funny smell. I brushed the singed hair off her shoulder, held the rest of her hair back and she managed to get all of her candles blown out without any further excitement.
