My Sanity Has Been Restored
It seems like just yesterday that we were counting down until the last day of school and wishing and hoping it would get here sooner. That last day finally came (the first week of June), and then we began to seriously prepare for our move. In the mean time we hoped and prayed our house would sell and soaked in the beauty of Kentucky. After the excitement of moving to Arizona wore off and we began to unpack and settle into our new home my sanity went out the window as the kids began to bicker, act like wild monkeys out in public and continually use the phrase "I'm bored".
Last Thursday I was blessed with a wonderful gift . . . my sanity has returned! You ask how? The answer is simple . . . School started!
I never thought I would be "one of those Mom's" who counted down the days until school started, but I am learning to never say never. I forgot how wonderful and refreshing it is to have at least an hour of total silence in my home, this happens while Sarah is napping of course. And I am enjoying spending time with Sarah, you know she really can be a very sweet, obedient little girl.

Elizabeth is in fourth grade, Rachel is in second, and John is in Kindergarten. They all go to the same school, Hualapai Elementary School (pronounced wall-a-pie) which is a huge blessing for them and me. They are all there all day and I love not making that mid-day trek to pick up someone from school and love one stop for drop off and pick up. The school has a modified school uniform policy, the kids are required to wear a school t-shirt in either navy or grey and then can wear whatever on the bottom. No more long decisions in the morning as to what to wear. Life is feeling more simple already.
I think John was the only one excited for the first day of school. The night before school started I was talking to him about going to school the next morning and he said, "See Mrs. Twila?" She was his physical therapist in Monticello. I don't think the idea of a new school, new teachers, etc. had sunk in yet. But he really likes his teacher Mrs. Szabo and the classroom aid Mrs. Sampson. When you ask him his teachers' names he says them as if they were one big long name, it's pretty cute. I'm just thankful he remembers their names on only the 3rd day of school. He is doing much better than I thought he would with all day Kindergarten. They have already had to make some modifications in the classroom for him when it comes to sitting at the tables to do work but he seems to be adjusting and catching onto the routine of things.
Of course Elizabeth and Rachel were nervous to start not knowing any of the kids and being unfamiliar with the school. They both came home the first day not very happy and not very excited to go back. They both say their teachers are nice, (Elizabeth has Mrs. Vieracker and Rachel has Mrs. Jackson) and they were excited that the kids were not "crazy" the first day. They like the things in the class room, it is recess they don't like so well. Elizabeth has found someone to "walk around" with at recess, but Rachel is still wishing someone would be her friend. Being shy can be so hard. Thankfully they both came home the second day saying it was a much better day. They are slowly getting used to going out to the playground in the morning before school starts. I'm proud of these girls, especially Rachel, for being brave at their new school.
School is getting each of my kiddos out of their comfort zone which is a good thing. School is helping me to keep my sanity and my broom locked away in the closet which is a good thing for everyone. School is simply a good thing!
