Adventures from Easter Weekend
I am hesitant to say it, but I am glad Easter is over. For many years now we have been celebrating the bunny, egg and basket part on Saturday. Friday night the older girls were so excited to leave out their Easter baskets for the Easter Bunny, almost like they thought he was Santa Claus or something. It bordered on the extreme when Rachel said she wanted to write the Easter Bunny a letter asking him for some new toy she wanted. That was the start of my pessimistic attitude toward the mysterious Easter Bunny. I had to explain you just get what ever he wants to bring.
Well, Saturday morning the kids were up before 6am wanting to see what was in their baskets. This year the Bunny hid their baskets and left plastic eggs in the living room, with one of them filled with a clue to where their baskets were hidden. The egg hunt first thing int he morning was not a good idea. John opened every egg he found and immediately ate the contents, so by 7am I think he had eaten a pound of candy. Rachel is not very rational when she is hungry, so we saw tears, whinny voices and frustration about others having more eggs, and not being able to find the eggs that were hidden really well despite the million clues.Oh, they finally found their Easter baskets which had more candy and a couple of small items for each of them.
Everyone was happier once they ate breakfast. And when we had an Easter Egg hunt in the backyard mid morning I think they all enjoyed it.
Each of the kids had gotten a can of silly string in their Easter baskets so in the afternoon we headed outside for some fun with the silly string. That started more drama. Who would have thought?
The drama was over not being able to get that little button pushed down to see the string spit out. Rachel was the only one who could work the little spray nozzle. And as we were about done there were tears from kiddos because their string was all gone and they didn't get to use any of it. Oh, bother!
What ever happened to being grateful for what you have and just enjoying yourself?
