How Long is Christmas Break in Kentucky??
Sunday December 12th we woke up to a beautiful blanket of snow! Enough that church was cancelled. Then Monday morning we woke up to more snow! School was cancelled. No snow melted Monday because the temperature stayed below freezing with a single digit wind chill. So Tuesday school was cancelled. Those not familiar with what snow means to our small rural county in Kentucky may be wondering, just how much snow did you get?
There it is above, just enough to make things white and beautiful! Those who live in places where snow is well . . . normal, go ahead and laugh . . . we do.
All day Monday the kids kept begging to go and play in the snow. One thing we have learned is that you better go play in the snow as soon as you see it because if you wait, it will be melted. But not this time. It was too cold to melt and way to cold to go play in. So I brought the snow in the house and they ate it for a snack. We even got a little creative and turned our bowls of snow into a "shaved ice" treat by adding orange Kool-Aid.
Tuesday the sun came out and despite the temperature in the teens we headed outside to play!
I was very grateful that I had seen and picked up a sled when I was at the hardware store a few weeks earlier. (I was there to buy a BYU sweatshirt. I don't know how one ended up in Kentucky, but I didn't care it was a nice hoodie for only $8.00. I don't think anyone else in town would have an interest in them so I bought the last two.) Anyway . . .

We spent part of the afternoon using the new sled on the hill in front of the neighbors house. It was a lot of fun. I'm glad we got out when we did because by Wednesday the snow was almost gone and all melted at our house by Thursday thanks to the rain.
So just how many days off from school did the kids have? All week!!! That means they are getting a 3 week long Christmas break; lucky kids! Or will it be longer????
