Our Special Visitor . . .

Last week we were blessed to have a very special  visitor come to our house. The kids (and Mom) were counting down the days until her arrival. . . Grandma Sue came to see us!

When we left Utah this summer, my Mom had told me to look at my calendar and choose a good time for her to come out and visit.  It didn't take long of looking at my calendar to decide that I wanted her to come while Paul would be out of town on a business trip for a week in September.  Thank goodness that it was a match with her schedule.

It was wonderful to have an extra set of hands to help with the kids while Paul was away and enjoyable to have some "girl" time in the evenings when the kids went to bed.  She is a wonderful Grandma who loves "play" with her grandkids.

She helped them get up close and personal with several different types of bugs.  The one shown above is a leaf bug that we found clinging to the side of a tree while we were visiting a civil war battle site.  Grandma Sue, Elizabeth and Rachel worked hard for three evenings to try to catch a fire fly.  They never caught one but they sure chased a lot of them.  She also managed to catch a grass hopper and we were able to watch it nibble on a piece of clover - very cool!

All the kids had a wonderful time with Grandma acting out plays (complete with costumes), having tea parties, doing craft projects, racing Hot Wheels cars and trying to find the big dipper in the night sky.  She shared with each of them her love for the outdoors when we took her to one of our favorite hiking places.

It was a fun filled, busy week!  We loved having her here!  She wasn't even gone a whole day and Elizabeth was already saying how much she missed Grandma Sue.  We all wish we lived closer, but until then we will treasure the memories of our times together!
