Yellowstone: Part 3
Even if you took all of the hydrothermal stuff away, Yellowstone is still an amazingly beautiful place.
Visiting the Upper & Lower Falls was beautiful but not very enjoyable. One down side of traveling so close to the 4th of July is there are lots of other people traveling also, so things were pretty crowded. Add to that trying to keep a hold of two energetic kiddos who haven't gained the judgement as to when they should be cautious and it spells not much fun for Mom or Dad.
You'll notice which child is trying to escape behind the railing (and there is a big drop off on the other side), that would be mine, Sarah. But it is sure pretty.
I preferred the scenery when things were level or the kids were better contained.
I learned when you visit Yellowstone you can't be in a hurry. Traffic would often get backed up or come to a stand still as visitors slowed down or stopped to view the wildlife along the side of the road. And there was quite a bit a wildlife to be seen.
When I think of Yellowstone I think of seeing bears, we never saw any of those but we saw lots and lots of buffalo. There was a large herd of them that came very close to the road and then eventually took turns crossing the road. At one point we saw a buffalo walking down the road with a very large line of cars following behind it, as if it was in a parade. I'm sure the people right behind it found it rather comical, but I don't think the ones 20 or more cars back did. That large buffalo was in no hurry to get off of the road and it almost seemed like he enjoyed slowing down traffic. Thanks goodness we were going in the opposite direction.
Elizabeth especially enjoyed seeing a nest high in a tree that belonged to a pair of bald eagles. She had recently studied them in her 2nd grade class.
Despite the crowds and traffic Yellowstone is a beautiful area that has wonderfully been preserved so that we could enjoy it's natural beauty.
