Things Are Getting A Little "Fishy"

I was feeling brave and a bit desperate as to how to entertain my kiddos so I decided to venture out by myself with all four kids. Something I don't do very often other than to school, the library or Walmart. I decided we would go to the local fish hatchery.

The kids had a great time seeing all of the fish; they raise Rainbow and Brown Trout. I was worried that John and Sarah would get a little too friendly with the water, but they did alright. John only touched it once or twice, but no one went swimming thank goodness. John did manage to throw in a stick, a leaf and a few small rocks before I could stop him. I was surprised at how badly his feelings were hurt when I explained that the fish don't like those types of things.

Thank goodness we had bought fish food so I could easily persuade him to throw the fish food instead. Each of the kids said their favorite part of our outing was feeding the fish. I don't think it was so much the dropping of the food in the tanks but rather watching the reaction from the fishies.

They (the fish) flipped and flopped all over the place and each other to try to get a little piece of food. We were even splashed a few times.

While we were there we were lucky enough to see the fish getting loaded onto a truck that would deliver them to their new home; a river somewhere in Kentucky.

Our outing ended with a snack and climbing and sliding on the playground near the hatchery. It was a good day for everyone!

aren't the fish crazy when you throw the food in? They act like they have never eaten! We did that with Abi for a field trip at school... I might be brave enough to take all 6 kids down there this summer!
