A Gift For Mother's Day
I’ve been doing a lot of “pondering” lately. Most of it spurred on by the progress of John’s developmental delays. And amidst this pondering I had a thought, a moment of enlightenment from the Spirit if you will.
I thought to myself if someone gave me a treasure chest I would immediately open it. If someone handed me a box of Seas Candy I would savor every bite. The list could go on. . . And then I thought I have been given three wonderful gifts to help me, but do I use them? I have been given the scriptures, the knowledge and ability to pray and I have been given a Patriarchal Blessing. Am I as excited to open these “gift” as I would be to open the treasure chest or eat the box of chocolate?
Hmmm? I need to do better.
I once heard that all of life’s problems can be answered in the scriptures. . . I have come to realize that the words to answer the problems may not be written on the page, but as I read the Holy Ghost can speak to me and give me answers. And as I have thought of John and how I can best help him, and what direction we need to go, I have realized that Heavenly Father has given me the tools: Prayer, Scriptures and a Patriarchal Blessing.
So if I know this, and it is such a simple thing to do, why do I not do it more diligently? Perhaps is like Moses and the Brass Serpent . . . all the children of Israel had to do was look! So simple!
If there is one thing I have learned as a mother, kids do not come with owner’s manuals, and there is not a one size fits all answer to raising children, but we are not left alone to accomplish this task called Motherhood. Our Heavenly Father knows what each of our children need and he wants to see each of us and our children succeed. We just need to ask, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” – Matthew 7;7
These three simple gifts are the best Mother’s Day present a mother could want, and I am grateful to already have them!
Happy Mother’s Day!!!
