Happy, Happy Birthday!

Yesterday was the BIG birthday day at our house. Big only because we celebrate 2 birthdays on the same day. Rachel turned 6 and John turned 4.

It was so much fun to watch Rachel open this present. She really thought she was getting a whole case of Carmel Delight Girl Scout Cookies, and she was so excited about it.

Elizabeth had to burst her bubble and tell her to open the box, sorry no 12 boxes of cookies. But she was equally delighted by what was inside.

And if you get a bike helmet a new bike is sure to follow! Paul hid the bike for Rachel to search around the house to find it. She finally found it in the bathroom.

Of course she had to try out the new bike. Too bad they had just poured new gravel on the roads yesterday. She kept saying, "We need black roads. When are they going to make black roads?"

She mostly rode around and around in the garage, but she enjoyed her new bike anyway.

John had a non-traditional cake. He doesn't like cake, just the frosting, so I decided I would try something new. Plus it saved me from having to make & decorate two cakes. He loves ice cream, so I made John a miniature ice cream cake (solid ice cream).

His first response to seeing his cake was, "baby cake." Not because he is a baby, but because the cake was so little. I had to laugh to myself when it came time to eat the cake because he still just ate the frosting. We tried to tell him it was ice cream but I don't think he understood.

And in true John fashion he loved shredding the wrapping paper as much as he did playing with his new toys. Although I think his new Hot Wheels cars became a more treasured item because he didn't cry when we put all of the paper in the trash; and when he woke up this morning he immediately found his new cars and started playing with them. When it was time to get ready for school he told me, "No, play with cars." He LOVES school, so I said to him, "John do you want to play with cars or go to school?" "Stay home and play with cars," was his reply.

I am grateful for these two little miracles in our family. Each a miracle in their own way. It is fun to see how much they each have grown and changed in the last year. I love you kiddos. Happy Birthday x 2!
