My Baby is Two!

Two is such a fun age to celebrate a birthday. A two year old finds delight is the simplest things.

While I was in town the other night I bought some balloons, you would have thought my kids had never seen a balloon before by how much fun they were having with them.

Sarah LOVED her cake. She was excited to see Dora, Diego, Boots and Backpack on her cake. And she had so much fun blowing out her candles that she kept asking to do it again and again. I think we re-lit them at least three times. I was surprised by how much she enjoyed eating the cake as well. She savored every bite. Oh . . . and to have ice cream with it too, WOW!

The rest of the kids were growing impatient with Sarah to be done eating her cake and ice cream, they wanted to see her open her presents.

When I brought out a small stack of presents to add to the big one that had been in the living room all day, Sarah said,"Presents," just as a way of observation. Then a second later it registered that they were for her and a big smile went across her face, and she began to jump up and down and said,"Presents, presents!"

A two year old is so fun to watch open presents. They finally know how to get the paper off in a timely fashion and once they do they enjoy their gift for a few minutes before they are on to another. And when they find one they really like they don't care about the rest that are waiting to be opened, they just want to play with that new one right away. That is gratitude at its finest.

It is hard to believe that my little baby is two years old, and not so much a baby anymore. As many gray hairs as Sarah has given me, she has given me a greater number of laughs and smiles as I have watched her discover the world and become a little girl. I am very glad she is part of our family!
