"Big Boy Bed"
John has finally graduated out of the crib and into a "big boy bed" (a toddler bed). We tried this sometime last summer, but he wouldn't stay in his bed. Even when the room was pitch black he would be up playing, and bugging Sarah while she slept. And believe it or not he wanted back into the crib to sleep. So back to the crib he went.
A few weeks ago we gave the toddler bed a second try and this time we had success!

There are still nights and afternoons where he would like to play instead of sleep. Instead of getting out of bed to play, this time he brings the toys into his bed. When I go into his room to tell him to get back in bed, he is already there, so instead I have to say, "No toys in bed, it's bedtime."
What a big step in this little boys life. I am learning that if you wait until the kid is ready for these "big steps" they are smooth and easy. But when I am the one imposing the time table for the "big steps" it is nothing but a battle and a headache. So what's the next big step . . . potty training. Mom ready + John not ready = will wait on that one. I've been assured that he won't graduate from high school wearing pull-ups.
Without coming out and saying so, I think Paul wants to have a part in this blog. I had him go take the picture of John sleeping, and while I was loading it into the computer he asked, "Did you find the Hotwheels car?" "What?" I asked. He said, "I put a Hotwheels car in bed with John. How long do you think it will take people to find?" There is indeed a car in bed with John, put there not by John but by Dad. Can you find it?
